Free Films on campus

A real useful resource that we have at WSU is the Student Entertainment Board (SEB). They organize various activities to give students a chance to have an interesting time in an otherwise uneventful area. Most recently they helped/organized the Princess and Pirates Up all Night, there were treasure hunts, costume contests, cupcake decorating, DDR, comedians and musical artists. But it isn’t just the Up All Nights that can fill an otherwise boring Friday night they also organize concerts, lectures and of course film showings. Every weekend the SEB also shows movies that are still too new to be out on DVD but just out of theaters for free. Last weekend the showed “The Express” and this weekend they will be showing “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”. For a full list of movies and they will be showing this semester and other SEB events you can check out their website http://seb.wsu.edu/seb.aspx . The movies are shown multiple times during the weekend so there should be at least one showing that you can make it to either Friday and Saturday at 6 and 9 or on Sunday at 4 and 7. Another plus is that the movies are shown in the newly remodeled CUB’s theater. Whether or not you like the new CUB, approval for the new theater is seemingly unanimous. Perfectly balanced surround-sound, comfortable seats and raised seats so seeing around the crazy hat or outrageously tall person sitting in front of you is no longer a problem.

The movies are a perfect and cheap way to not only kill some time but also see new movies that you may have missed in theaters or just loved so much that you have to see them again and again. For example, last semester’s showing of The Dark Knight drew a large crowd. Every showed time the theater was packed, and the most popular show times (Friday and Saturday at 9) even had people being turned away simply due to lack of seats.

I encourage everyone to get out and take advantage of the opportunities that the school organizations so eagerly provide to the students (especially the free ones)! And remember, every weekend the SEB is showing a different movie so take the time to put off that homework or take a break from studying and just relax!
